Plasma skin regeneration (PSR) technology
Plasma skin regeneration (PSR) technology uses energy delivered from plasma rather than light or radiofrequency. Plasma is the fourth state of matter in which electrons are stripped from atoms to form an ionized gas. The plasma is emitted in a millisecond pulse to deliver energy to target tissue upon contact without reliance on skin chromophores. The technology can be used at varying energies for different depths of effect, from superficial epidermal sloughing to deeper dermal heating. With the Portrait® PSR device (Rhytec, Inc.) there are three treatment guidelines termed PSR1, PSR2, and PSR3. The PSR1 protocol uses a series of low-energy treatments (1.0-1.2 Joules) spaced 3 weeks apart. The PSR2 protocol uses one high-energy pass (3.0-4.0 Joules) performed in a single treatment, and the PSR3 protocol uses two high-energy passes (3.0-4.0 Joules) performed in a single treatment. All protocols improve fine lines, textural irregularities, and dyspigmentation; however, skin tightening is probably more pronounced with the high-energy treatments.
Portrait® Plasma has been FDA cleared for the full-face treatment of fine to deep wrinkles, superficial skin lesions and pre-cancerous skin growth. It can reduce or eliminate brown spots and wrinkling caused by the sin and repair hyper pigmentation. Instead of employing a light laser, light treatment or injection, Portrait® Plasma works by delivering millisecond pulses of nitrogen plasma energy to the skin’s resurface via a special hand piece that stimulates and produces new collagen, the building blocks for skin regeneration.
How long does the Portrait® Plasma Treatment take and what is involved?
The hand piece transfers plasma energy onto the skin without any direct contact. This heats up the tissue with no burning. A full-face treatment usually takes less than 45 minutes. whereas; a regional treatment can be as short as 5 – 10 minutes. Shortly after, you will see improvements in your skin texture and elasticity and diminished wrinkles giving you a new, more vibrant and youthful appearance. Over time you will see continuing improvement that is truly unique.
As the Portrait® heating effect is highly localized, the results are usually smooth and normal looking. The epidermis stays intact for the first 48 hours and acts as a biological dressing during the healing process. Since there is no open skin or wound, the chances for infection are dramatically reduced. Other benefits include compatibility with many skin types, less pain, less redness and faster healing time over other procedures.
What areas can be treated?
Portrait® Plasma skin regeneration can be used to treat an entire face or a specific area.
What types of type of results are expected?
The results are comparable to aggressive laser resurfacing but the downtime is dramatically reduced. It keeps working, stimulating collagen production that has a unique matrix and improving increasing elastin for up to one year with continued improvement to the skin. And, Portrait® is safe and effective. It gives you the results you want without the lengthy downtime or the risks associated with other treatments.
What makes Portrait® different from other treatments ?
Its energy-transferring mechanism initiates regeneration deep below the skin’s surface, remodeling the skin’s architecture to create results that improve over time as the new architecture progressively replaces the old.
What can I expect post Potrait® Plasma Treatment?
You will see improvements in skin texture, tone and reduction of fine wrinkles at lower levels of treatment and reduction of deep wrinkles at higher levels of treatment. New healthier collagen growth will improve contours and enhance your overall appearance.
Portrait® is ideal for those people who do not want more aggressive treatments but who want the same profound results. Anyone who has lost elasticity or has wrinkles around the eyes and lips should consider Portrait® because it is particularly effective in treating these areas of the face. Most skin types are appropriate for the Portrait® procedure which sets it apart from laser and other light-based treatments. If you have darker skin or are prone to scarring, you should seek the advice of your physician.
