Anti-Aging Resveratrol

Anti-Aging Resveratrol Supplements

Resveratrol (trans-resveratrol) is a phytoalexin produced naturally by several plants when under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Resveratrol is a potent member of the class of natural, plant-derived chemicals known as polyphenols. Resveratrol offers a rich source of antioxidants (polyphenols), which have been shown to boost health and fight off free radicals. The highest levels of resveratrol are usually found in red wine. Resveratrol is found in the skin of red grapes and since red wine is brewed with the skins, much of this chemical end up in wine. Resveratrol is the primary ingredient found in red wine and is the reason red wine has been shown to have health promoting and heart fortifying abilities. Resveratrol has also been produced by chemical synthesis.

Resveratrol has shown some positive results in research studies, where it has been used to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Resveratrol is often found in anti aging formulas due to its reported ability to reduce wrinkles and skin aging. When it’s been studied as a weight loss agent, researchers believe that it mimics the effects of a calorie restrictive diet, which is known to increase weight loss results as well as slowing the aging process and boosting overall health. Resveratrol activates certain proteins in your body that increase fat metabolism and help you safely lose weight. Resveratrol significantly increases the number of mitochondria in the muscle cells, which are responsible for generating your cell’s energy.

Resveratrol products are made either from grape skin extracts or from Japanese knotweed extract. Resveratrol is available in pill and liquid form, with concentrations of up to one gram or more per dose. Previously the only way to benefit from Resveratrol was by drinking red wine however the main problem with this was (and still is) that you have to take many glasses a day as there isn’t enough resveratrol in red wine for you to benefit fully! This is the main reason for taking supplements.
