Low Calorie Diet Drinks Not Only Will Gain You Weight But Also Not Healthy At All

Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Diet x, Diet y – These diet sodas claim to lose you weight. But the fact is opposite. They are not helping in controlling weight, the worst is they are not healthy at all. Diet drinks doe not contain real sugars (sucrose). They are sweetened with artificial sweeteners. Diet drinks are zero calories or very low calories. Both these facts could fool people into thinking diet drink or sodas will not gain weight and healthy. But the truth is not

Artificial sweeteners currently approved by FDA are:

  • Acesulfame potassium (Sunett, Sweet One)
  • Aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet)
  • Neotame
  • Saccharin (SugarTwin, Sweet’N Low)
  • Sucralose (Splenda)

Artificial sweeteners or sugar substitutes are not risk free and may not be healthy at all. Here are the facts –

2011/02: Researchers from Miami University reported that people who drink diet soda daily had increased risk of cardiovascular disease by 61% compared to people who do not drink diet drinks every day.

2010/08: Danish researchers discovered that pregnant women who drink diet soda everyday has a higher chance at 38% of giving birth prematurely.

2008/02: Purdue University scientists reported that eating disserts containing artificial sweetener will interfere with normal metabolism and can gain you weight instead of lose you weight

A new study recently published at American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Scientific Sessions by researchers from the School of Medicine at The University of Texas further proved this. The researchers found that those who reported drinking diet soda had 70% greater increases in waistline growth than non-drinkers. Among frequent drinkers — those who consumed two or more diet sodas a day — waistline growth was 500% greater than among non-drinkers. Researchers said their results were adjusted for other contributing factors like diabetes status, leisure-time physical activity level and age.

In another study presented at the ADA meeting, researchers found an link between consumption of aspartame, an artificial sweetener found in many diet drinks, and elevated glucose levels in mice. This observation indicated that diet sodas are not very healthy, especially for the people who already have diabetes.

Then what is the best drink though? Very, very simple, the best drink is water, natural fruit juices, nonfat milk, soymilk, green tea.

Multivitamin and Green Tea Combo Turns Back Clock

In Chinese society, they have been drinking green tea now for many hundreds of years and only in the few decades has green tea made any real inroads into western culture.

Food and nutritionists have been studying the green tea leaf for some time for its health benefits – it has been lauded as a defensive agent against colon rectal cancer, heart disease and even makes bones healthier.

Scientists found that green tea contains a particular substance known as epigallocatechin gallate or [EGCG], this compound is supposed to block the enzyme action reacts to dissipate noradrenaline. Noradrenaline is responsible for controlling metabolic function that comprises the heart rate and discharge of energy from fats. When EGCG is contained in the system, it should be able to increase the metabolism according to expert opinion.

Deep In Flavonoids

It is known that green tea is laden with flavonoids and other certain elements, which can contain powerful antioxidant traits. There is already significant evidence to provide credence to the presence of polyphenols and their anti cancerous and anti-inflammatory characteristics. There have been newer studies that enticingly associate green tea and multivitamins to actually achieving a more biologically youthful age.

Information has surfaced from the Chinese University Of Hong Kong that reports a discovery that cells from regular tea imbibers appear to display a youthful biological age than those cells of non tea drinking individuals. Researchers observed the telomeres of persons who typically drank three cups of tea per day were approximately 4.6 kilobases longer than those who consumed a quarter cup of tea daily. The disparity in telomeres length matches roughly a differential of five years of life.

Green Tea [Chinese]

The majority of the tea drinkers who were contributing to the study regularly drank green tea. The study based the length of telomeres results from nine hundred seventy six men of Chinese heritage and one thousand thirty Chinese women over sixty five years of age. The study contributors’ eating habits were surveyed by utilizing a food regulating feedback form.

When a specialist of Oncology was asked for his opinion about the study results he said they showed that longevity in those people who imbibe in green tea may in fact be a result of telomere span and telomere progression veracity of the DNA. A telomere is an area of recurring DNA comprising the last part of a chromosome, which safeguards the end of the chromosome from damage. He said the length and sequence were distinctive.
Agreeing that telomere length may indeed be an indication of biological aging [the shorter the telomere length the older the cell is]. Nevertheless, there is no suggestion given of the telomere length and damage from free radicals to the sequence from oxidative harm, since length and sequence are two distinct things. Oxidative damage could signify the untimely mortality of the cell or premature apoptosis [cell death] rather later when telomere length is considerably abbreviated by numerous cycles of cell creation, activating apoptosis.

Green Tea Caplet Supplements

Green tea has about thirty to forty percent polyphenols in its mixture that is extracted when consumed. However, there are certain green tea supplements of pharmacy grade that consist of up to ninety seven percent polyphenols. The study found that telomeres length was greater in those who took multivitamins daily with their green tea should support the use of a good multivitamin taken daily along with several cups of green tea or a green tea supplement.

Another U.S. based study has shown that in a group of five hundred eighty six women aged between thirty five and seventy four showed longer telomere length in those who regularly ingested a multivitamin.

Spleen ‘Qi’ Deficiency And Aging

Spleen Qi Deficiency is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Pattern of Illness. As per the Chinese tradition, “Qi” means energy sustained by the body. The energy flows around and within the body in multiple ways. However, these pathways are separate from the circulatory, nervous and lymphatic system routes. The energy Qi is a virtual form of an energy that comprises of genetic traits, lifestyle until present and the daily intake of food, water and air by a person. So what is spleen Qi deficiency? When the Qi of the spleen is low, the spleen does not function efficiently. But what does a spleen do? It aids in recycling old RBC (red blood cells), creating lymphocytes for strengthening the immune system, absorption of nutrients from foods consumed and extraction of the Qi from the food and transporting the energy through out the body. Hence, when there is a Qi deficiency in spleen, the cascading effects cause many abdominal discomforts as well as accelerated aging.

Mind Uploading

Uploading is the (so far hypothetical) process of transferring the mental structure and consciousness of a person to an external carrier, like a computer. This would make it possible to completely avoid biological deterioration (aging, damage), allow the creation of backup copies of the mind, very profound modifications and postbiological existence.

Mind uploading or whole brain emulation (sometimes called mind transfer) is the hypothetical process of scanning and mapping a biological brain in detail and copying its state into a computer system or another computational device. The computer runs a simulation model so faithful to the original that it will behave in essentially the same way as the original brain, or for all practical purposes, indistinguishably. The simulated mind is assumed to be part of a virtual reality simulated world, supported by a simplified body simulation model. Alternatively, the simulated mind is assumed to reside in a computer inside (or connected to) a biological body or a humanoid robot.

In theory, if the information and processes of the mind can be disassociated from the biological body, they are no longer tied to the individual limits and lifespan of that body. Furthermore, information within a brain could be partly or wholly copied or transferred to one or more other substrates (including digital storage or another brain), thereby reducing or eliminating mortality risk.

Another concept explored in science fiction is the idea of more than one running “copy” of a human mind existing at once. Such copies could potentially allow an “individual” to experience many things at once, and later integrate the experiences of all copies into a central mentality at some point in the future, effectively allowing a single sentient being to “be many places at once” and “do many things at once”; this concept has been explored in fiction. Such partial and complete copies of a sentient being raise interesting questions regarding identity and individuality.

Widespread uploading would have huge effects. Let’s go over some of them in turn.
1) Massive economic growth.
2) Intelligence enhancement.
3) Greater subjective well-being.
4) Complete environmental recovery.
5) Escape from direct governance by the laws of physics.
6) Closer connections with other human beings.
7) Last but not least, indefinite lifespans. the fact that uploading could lead to practical immortality. Well, it really could. By being a string of flickering bits distributed over a worldwide network, killing you could become extremely difficult. The data and bits of everyone would be intertwined — to kill someone, you’d either need complete editing privileges of the entire worldwide network, or the ability to blow up the planet. Needless to say, true immortality would be a huge deal, a much bigger deal than the temporary fix of life extension therapies for biological bodies, which will do very little to combat infectious disease or exotic maladies such as being hit by a truck.

Brazil Discovered The Oldest Woman In World Aged 120

Brazil recently (2011) discovered a woman Maria Lucimar Pereira aged 120-years old during routine check of state birth records by INNS – Brazil’s National Institute of Social Security

The birth certificate says she was born on September 3, 1890. If her birth certificate is true, this indigenous women in the remote north-west Brazilian Amazon state of Acre would will be the world’s oldest living person.

At present American Besse Cooper, who was born on August 26, 1896 – making her nearly 115-years old – is regarded as the oldest in the world.

Simple blood test to measure how fast the body’s tissues are ageing at molecular level?

BBC news – Scientists are developing a simple blood test to measure how fast the body’s tissues are ageing at a molecular level.

They have found that as tissue ages, concentrations of a protein called p16INK4a dramatically increases. Measuring levels of the protein could potentially provide a way to assess how healthy the tissues are, and how they will respond to surgery or drugs. (The University of North Carolina study appears in the journal Aging Cell).

Should you go gray naturally or dye your hair as you age?

Sultry and sophisticated. You may not realize it but I am talking about how gray hair will soon be viewed. Gray hair used to be seen as a problem because it reminded people that were aging. Nowadays we all live much longer and the likelihood of most of us turning gray is greater because of it.

As the world veers more towards an environmentally green future, new designs and innovations are being made to accommodate the ecological views of the people. Architecture and the ways we produce energy to fuel our homes are all changing, and so will fashion. This is because fashion dictates where money flows by picking up on trends and having the vision to see above the crowd to where we will all be headed next. The money and trends of the future will be green and not gray.

Dying hair uses nasty chemicals. They are unpleasant and cannot be good for the environment, and possibly could be detrimental to health over time.

Chemicals can also leave your hair brittle and dry. This means that it is prone to breakage, as well as loosing it’s shine at the same time.

Many advert campaigns now feature the more mature model, usually with flowing locks of gray hair. These models, far from looking decrepit, look fresh, confident and even sexy. As more and more of these adverts flood the market gray will be the color to sport along with more natural, easy going hairstyles that evoke a feeling of freedom.

Whether you personally choose to dye your hair or to leave nature to have it’s way will depend on your own personal style, and whether you are turning gray in a subtle way or not. Some of us will see our hair turn into a mass of silvery white, while for others their journey into grey hair will be marred by a dramatic clashing of black and white patches.

While this look can suit some folks, others just don’t feel right this way. The most important point about whether you dye your hair or not is that what you do is your choice alone and that you are happy with the result. An empowered woman is one who feels free to make up her own mind and who will not be bamboozled into doing as she is told! However, it is important to know that it is just as fashionable and beautiful to have gray hair as it is to have hair with color.

Now we no longer think of gray as the hair color of people close to the end of life and more as the hair color of those who are mature and sophisticated gray has gained a good reputation. I myself look forward to seeing what nature has in store for my hair as I march through time, and intend to remain stylish no matter what my hair color turns out to be.

Cryobiology: Cryonic Suspension

While most transhumanists are quite convinced that life extension will be possible, most agree that it will take several years (or decades/centuries) before immortality becomes practical. And in the meantime there is a non-zero chance that you die from accidents or disease, regardless of how healthy your lifestyle is.

One answer to this problem is cryonics, or rather cryonic suspension; the technique of freezing the body to so low temperatures that it does not decay significantly. If misfortune strikes, you could be suspended until medical techniques have been developed far enough to revive you and cure you.

Cryonic suspension is a (currently non-standard) medical technique for attempting to prevent the permanent cessation of life in individuals on the brink of death. It involves the use of low temperatures to halt metabolic decay. A person who is cryonically suspended can not be revived by current medical technology. The freezing process does too much damage. What is accomplished is that once frozen the person’s biological state does not change. The reason for performing a cryonic suspension is the belief that science, technology, and society will advance to the point where revival of the person is both possible and desirable.

Cryonics is currently a big gamble, and even the enthusiasts acknowledge that there are many unsolved problems. But there is little to loose by choosing cryonic suspension: either it will work and restoration methods will be developed and used in the far future, or it won’t.

The ‘Lean Gene’ IRS1 May Increase Risk of Type-2 Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease In Lower Weight People

It has been long known that a higher body fat above 40% will dramatically increase the risk for cardiovascular disease. However, a recent study published in the journal Nature Genetics revealed that even if you are low body fat, you could still have high risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

IRS1 is called ‘lean gene” because this gene is linked to lower body fat. But people with this slim gene could be still at higher risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Scientist found that even though IRS1 – the lean gene – can relatively lower body fat, but this gene can also cause accumulation of glucose and cholesterol in some dangerous places. It collects fats around organs instead of under skin, so the people with IRS1 gene would appear slim but the fat is accumulated around organs which increase the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
