Take Time Off Your Hands – how to have silky hand
During the day our hands are exposed to constant aggression from external factors, such as water, cold weather, sun exposure, daily chores…Hand skin care is very important if we want to avoid old and wrinkled hands before our time. Your hands do the talking when it comes to revealing your age. Sadly, sunspots and bulging veins can scream 60 when you’re only 40.
What makes hands look older than their years? For starters, more use and abuse–and less pampering–than your face. From easing dryness to lightening discoloration.
Here are some tips on hand care.
Moisturize
Take care not to let the skin on hands dry. Moisturize them often to keep off the winkles. Put the hands again in water after washing them with soap, and scrub them with salt. Then dry the hands with a towel and apply a hand cream or lotion. Moisturizer would ensure healthy skin and also save them from cold which often leads to colds and flu infections.
Lotion, Mixture and Treatments
Before venturing out, use sunscreen lotion on hands. It would save skin from sun exposure which damages skin. Create a mixture of glycerin, lemon juice and a few drops of rose water. Use it to massage your hands thrice a week. For keeping your hands soft and supple forever, use special treatments like a warm oil bath and herbal therapies. A protective barrier would always be helpful for your skin.
Nail Care
Increase the time between coloring your nails. It would help better and healthy nails to develop. Never remove cuticles. There presence protects your nails from infection. Nails are sometimes so soft that they often break. In such a case, it is recommended to soak the nails in warm olive oil for around twenty minutes every alternate day to make them hard and unbreakable. While eating, nails could get stains. To remove these stains, it is suggested to soak the nails in lemon water. Avoid using acetone polish removers for these dry out nails. Keep nails short–the white tips should be about 1 8 inch long. “Shorter nail shapes soften the appearance of pronounced knuckle joints and veins,” says Jan Arnold, cofounder of Creative Nail Design, a nail care company.
Using Hand Cream
Make a habit of using hand cream often. Keep a bottle of it in a place which you visit frequently. Apply hand care cream several times in a day for keeping the hands soft and smooth.
A host of ingredients–retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids, and peptides–build collagen and thicken skin over time and can make hands look younger. You don’t need a special hand cream, though. “If you’re using a product that contains these ingredients on your face, apply it to your hands,” suggests Kimberly Butterwick, MD, a La Jolla, CA, dermatologist. For best results, use an Rx retinoid like Renova or Avage. Also helpful: a weekly home peel that dissolves dead cells to reveal smoother skin and a monthly do-it-yourself microdermabrasion to gently polish the skin’s surface. Though neither works to the same extent as pro treatments, “they can improve skin thickness,” says Lupo.
Veins
“Veins that normally wouldn’t be visible under plump skin become prominent with collagen and fat loss,” says Lee Schulman, MD, an NYC-based phlebologist.
Moisturizers that build collagen (see “Thin, Wrinkly Skin,” below) can help plump skin so veins stand out less. To minimize the color contrast between your skin and the purple vessels, apply an opaque concealer or use a self-tanner. Other fixes: jewelry and manicures. In a recent study, people thought women were younger when their hands were adorned with polish and rings.
Sunspots
UV exposure damages pigment-producing cells (melanocytes), causing brown spots to form. “Among drivers, the left hand–the one the sun hits–often looks older. Use a separate lotion that contains 2% hydroquinone (HQ), the most effective bleaching agent. “HQ works inside the melanocytes to suppress production of melanin, the pigment that makes up this discoloration,” says Lupo. Start now–it could take months to notice a difference. For speedier results, choose one that also contains retinol or alpha-hydroxy acid, which helps drive HQ into skin. To prevent new spots, sunscreen is key. Use a skin care product that contains a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 15 for your hands. For the best protection, check the label for avobenzone (aka Parsol 1789), Mexoryl, or Helioplex (found in Neutrogena).
Use of Gloves
Keep gloves while gardening or washing dishes. It would protect your hands from dust, pollution and chemical reactions at all times by wearing gloves while doing.
Pat Your Hands
Keep patting your hands dry frequently. It would prevent the evaporation from drying out water or fungal infections from developing.
Using Cornmeal
Cornmeal cleanse and softens hands efficiently. So you can extensively use it. Rubbing cormeal on the hands is very helpful, if the hands get greasy.
