How to Have Silky Feet

We spend most our lives walking about on our two feet, yet our feet are often the most neglected parts of our body. We usually take far less care of our feet than the other parts of our body. The feet surely need more care, so here are a few foot care tips that will help you to soothe and pamper these oft neglected body parts. Today our lifestyles involve a lot of stress and our feet often bear the brunt of it. We are in our shoes day in and day out, which makes our feet weak. One of the best things you can do is to stay barefoot once you get home. It helps in relaxing your feet after sitting or standing all day and also helps regain the balance of the body’s polarity. Walking barefoot on grass or sand will gently massage your feet.

  • Wash you feet on a daily basis, in lukewarm soapy water. Thereafter, rinse them with cool water, dry with a towel and apply foot cream.
  • Whenever you get your feet wet, make sure to dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes.
  • The best time to buy shoes is later in the day, when the feet are a bit swollen. The shoes that feel comfortable at that time will surely be comfy at all times of the day.
  • If, and when, you go out in the sun wearing sandals, make sure to apply a sunscreen on your feet, just like the rest of your exposed body parts.
  • Scrub your feet, especially the heels, with a foot scrubber on a regular basis. It will help remove the dead cells and make you feet softer.
  • Before going to bed, wash you feet thoroughly, dry them with a towel and apply moisturizer generously, especially at the heels.
  • Whenever you are applying moisturizer or cream on your feet, avoid the area between the toes.
  • To keep you feet dry and odor free, make use of products like foot powders, foot sprays and specially designed insoles.

Soak: After a long day when feet are hot and achy, there is nothing more relaxing than a soothing foot soak. Soaking your feet will relax tightened muscles and soften hard and calloused skin. You can make a simple soak using 3 cups of water and 4 cups of milk, for dry feet add a couple teaspoons of olive oil or honey and stir before and after heating. Be sure to test the temperature of your foot soak before putting your feet in. Once your mixture is prepared and heated, take a seat, grab a book and soak for 15 to 20 minutes.

Exfoliate: After soaking is the best time to exfoliate because much of the hard, calloused skin is softened and can easily be removed. If your feet are in need of some serious exfoliation, you can start by making a sugar scrub to loosen calloused skin and then use a pumice stone to buff it away. Sugar scrubs can be made using half a cup of sugar, a quarter cup of olive oil, and a little lemon juice. After using the sugar scrub, pat your feet dry with a towel, leaving a little moisture, and then use the pumice stone or a foot file to remove the hard skin on toes and heels. Rinse feet and dry thoroughly.

Trim: Cutting your toenails regularly will keep them clear and healthy. Dry your feet completely and cut nails in a straight line. Avoid cutting the edges of toenails too deeply because this can cause bleeding, infection or even worse– fungus.

Moisturize: Using an ample amount of your favorite moisturizer, massage your feet until the moisturizer is almost entirely absorbed. For feet that are very dry you may want to try a deep moisturizing treatment.
