Natural remedies for reducing puffy eyes and dark circles under eyes
Reducing dark under eye circles and puffiness related to lack of sleep isn’t difficult and you don’t need to spend a fortune at the cosmetics counter. If you wake up in the morning and your eyes are dark and puffy, it may indicate water retention. This is easily remedied by drinking a few glasses of water. Since caffeine, salty foods and alcohol only compound the problem, eliminating them from your diet will help prevent water retention. Pat your eyes to distribute the fluid evenly. Don’t rub them though; this may cause swelling which will only make matters worse.
Do’s:
- Dip cotton pads in chilled milk and place on closed eyes for 10 minutes. Now relax completely. This is to relax the eye skin muscles when they are tired after working with computers.
- Grate a potato with its peel and apply on your closed eyelids for about 20 minutes and relax completely. This is to care your eyes to have firm muscles.
- Put sliced cucumber over your eyes to avoid developing dark circles.
- If your eyes are red and feeling itchy, massage your scalp with curd, to reduce the unwanted temperature around your eye skin.
- Wash your eyes with cold water often to get sparkling feel for your eye skin.
- Give a massage to the eyes, by gentle finger movement always down to up.
If you work in front of a computer all day, it’s important to take a break every couple of hours to rest your eyes. If they feel tired, splash them with some cold water and they will feel rejuvenated. If you could get away with closing your eyes for a few minutes, and not look like you’re sleeping on the job, try to do so to give your tired eyes a rest.
It may be that you need something soothing on your eyes. Why not relax for a while with some cucumber slices on your eyes? Ten to thirty minutes on the couch with your eyes closed and your feet up should make you feel like new. Your eyes will feel as if they’ve undergone a spa treatment.
If cucumbers aren’t handy, try a cool water compress, a compress of cold milk, an ice pack, potato slices or even some damp tea bags. Tea contains tannin which acts as an astringent. Dampen a couple of tea bags with cold water and place them over your eyes. Relax for fifteen to thirty minutes.
A cool compress or soothing home remedy will rejuvenate tired eyes and eliminate the evidence before it’s time to leave for work or school.
